The
layered strata of Mt. Rainier is visible in this closeup
of the northwest flank of the mountain. It's been layered,
uplifted, fractured, baked and stacked into a 14,409 foot
pile of basalt and other igneous rocks and intrusions.
Glaciers have cut into its flanks in every direction.
