Doorways
into the past at Pueblo Bonito, Chaco Canyon, New Mexico
Small
doorways connect a series of rooms at Pueblo Bonito. The
size of the doors were determined by the size of the Chacoan
people, which was small, compared to most modern humans.
The doorways were also kept small to help moderate temperature
in the inner rooms. The ruins, according to Wikipedia,
may have once had as many as 800 rooms. The construction
methods developed by the Chacoan builders kept the rooms
cool in the heat of summer, and insulated them to keep
warm, with the help of fire, in winter.
