Jackson
Staircase, cut into the rock face at Chaco Culture National
Historic Park
The
Chacoans cut several staircases into the cliffs at Chaco
Canyon. This photo doesn't quite capture the steepness
of the steps, which look very treacherous when viewing
it in person. There may once have been some kind of hand
holds, or primitive railing to assist the ancient climbers.
