Remains of a long wall at Pueblo Arroyo, Chaco Culture National
Historic Park
The
ruins of Peublo Arroyo once had numerous levels, including
subterranean rooms and a somewhat unusual double-walled
kiva. With ventilation for hearths, and architecture that
kept the rooms cool on hot summer days, it may have been
altogher cozy for that era in human history. Many of the
ruins in Chaco Canyon were abandoned around 1150 AD, probably
because of a long period of drought.
