Inside Wall of the Great Kiva at Pueblo Bonito
The
great kivas were built to hold large numbers of worshippers
for special ceremonies. The Chacoans creaeted a solar
calendar called the "sun dagger" with a spiral
shape, pierced by a shape of a knife, beaming between
two rocks. It's seasonal passage across the spiral shape
marked solar events as the light changed through the year.
