the Mesas at Chaco Canyon are great houses that were once
connected to Pueblo Bonito by a surprisingly high quality
series of smooth, wide roads. It was part of a 400 mile
network that connected other outlying communities with
the more densely populated inhabitations around Chaco
Canyon. There is some speculation that the roads may have
also had a pageant-like, ceremonial use. Chacoans may
have used Chaco Canyon great houses as places of pilgramage.
