This photo was taken shortly after a mid-summer ice storm blew over, on the way up to the summit of Mt. Baker. We needed to wait out the white-out conditions to minimize our risk of getting lost or blown off the mountain on the final ascent, which we succeeded in making the next morning. From the summit we peered down into the gaseous, sulpher-reeking crater, and out to the Pacific Ocean and the gentle, arching curve of the earth.
